Student Services

The following services are provided to students by AUSI:

Orientation
An orientation program is conducted prior to the commencement of each semester. The program is designed to help students familiarise themselves with AUSI, its facilities and the courses on offer. Assistance will be provided with the selection of units as well as purchase of text books. A special "orientation to Nairobi" is offered to international or non Nairobi students.

Counselling
Trained staff members are available to provide information and advice on educational opportunities at AUSI and in Australia. Queries about living in Australia will also be answered.

Library
Well-resourced library open for research and study sessions.

Accommodation
Advice on student accommodation is provided. AUSI has its own accommodation (AUSI Village) as well as a list of hostels and homestays that students may wish to choose from.

Medical Health Cover
The Institute provides a group medical health cover. The cover is compulsory for International students and optional for Kenyan students. All students staying at AUSI village have to be covered. Students who have other medical cover may be exempted on a case-by-case basis.

Student Web Portal
AUSI students can access the student web portal from any location with Internet access and communicate with their lecturers and fellow students, enroll for their units and check their timetables.

Airport pick up & transfer
For their first arrival, international students are met free of charge at the airport and transferred to their accommodation. Transfers from the bus terminal for students arriving by bus can also be organised.

Study support
Various study skill workshops are organised right through the semester, including computer familiarisation courses and exam preparation workshops.

Extra curricular activities
A range of sporting activities are available (AUSI has a football, cricket and basketball team) and social events are arranged on a regular basis.

Guest Lecturers
Each semester at least two academics from Australia visit AUSI to give guest lectures and to moderate AUSI's courses. All AUSI students and lecturers benefit from this interaction. Additionally, local business, computing and I.T. and mass communication practitioners are often invited to give guest lectures on suitable topics.

Professional speakers from industry
AUSI has a policy of inviting Professional Speakers from industry to give career-oriented presentations to our students.

Internships
With links being established with various companies and organisations, AUSI aims to provide suitable students with opportunities to carry out work placement and internships.

Transferring to Australian Universities
Regular forums are held to address issues of students transferring to Australia.
